This year, as with years prior, I am having a hard time with the holidays. It seems my whole family is looking forward to a large extravagant meal…..one that I won’t be able to enjoy with them. Or can I? I have made a decision that I will, feast with my family. In order to do so, its going to take some planning, research, and patience. I wanted to share some of the things I found and the ideas I have come across! I hope this helps….
The TURKEY:
I would love to tell you that I found an organic turkey or one with no salt at all….but that is just not possible.- Butterball fresh has only 70 mgs of sodium per four ounces, what’s naturally in the turkey itself. This is a great way to start the feast! All turkeys are different and some are brined in salt. So make sure you check the label. You can create a great brine at home with no salt added veggie broth and spices!
Sides:
- Cranberry sauce (10mg)
- Birds eye steam fresh corn (0mg)
- Maple Brussel Sprouts (0mg)
- Low Sodium Scalloped Potatoes Au Gratin (100mg per serving)
- Salad with a no sodium dressing and lots of toppings! (0mg if you pay attention to your toppings and dressing!)
- cranberries
- onions
- tomato’s
- raisins
